WELCOME TO OUR SEARCH FOR
A NEW RECTOR

In the spring of 2011, the Vestry of St. John’s unanimously approved the creation of a Transition Committee to serve our parish during its transition to a new Rector following the 22-year ministry of the Rev. Philip Snyder, who will be retiring as Rector of St. John’s in 2012.

We are extremely thankful for the love, dedication, and care that Philip has shown to the people of St. John’s during each of the years of his ministry.  Philip is leaving St. John’s in a good place and poised to move forward to extend our varied ministries.

RECTOR SEARCH PRAYER
Father, Lord God Almighty, as we search for a new rector of this
parish, help us to remember the words of the Psalmist: "I will instruct
you and teach you the way you should go, I will counsel you with my eye
upon you."   Help us to listen for your instructions so that we may
receive a faithful pastor.  In the name of your son, our saviour Jesus
the Christ. AMEN

THE TRANSITION COMMITTEE

The Transition Committee reflects the varied community that is St. John’s. It comprised of 7 members.  We are men and women of varying ages and differing interests. Some of us are relatively long-term parishioners.  Others are newer to Ithaca and St. John’s, bringing new ideas and skills to the task at hand. We represent a variety of ministries in our parish life, including music, Christian education, lay readers, Eucharistic ministers, Altar Guild, greeters and vestry service. We have professional skills and experience in a number of disciplines, including education, academic life, engineering, social work, human resources, law and economics. Some of us were raised in the Episcopal church, while some of us came to the Episcopal church later in life. Some of us have children still attending St. John’s, while others have had their children grow up in our church community.  All of us are committed to the success and growth of St. John’s in accord with its mission statement:
“Gathering together to worship; growing together in Christ.”
