Sunday School and Christian Education

Supervised Nursery care for children under four is provided from 9:30 a.m. through the end of the 10:30 service.

Sunday School classes for pre-K up to 5th grade begin at 10:30 a.m. Once a quarter there is a children's chapel for all children. Parents are always welcome!
Schedule.

Children join their familes in church at about 11:15 for communion.

The youth and children's choirs sing once a month during the 10:30 service; on those Sundays, there are pre-k and kindergarten activities.

Our Sunday school curriculum is provided by the Episcopal Church. It follows the Episcopal Church's Revised Common Lectionary being used in the church service for that Sunday. Each Sunday's lesson plan is supplemented with activities and craft projects.

Children are welcome in church at any time and there are books, crayons, and paper for them at tables and small chairs behind the pews.

For information, please call the Parish Secretary, Sarah Richtmyer, at (607) 273-6532.

Class for adults who are specially challenged: For over twenty years. St. John's has offered a Sunday morning class with worship, activities, and fellowship for adults who are developmentally challenged. It is an ecumenical class in which we seek to convey the love of Christ. The class has been recognized as a Jubilee Ministry of the Episcopal Church.

Acolyte Program: Many of the older children (fifth grade and above) participate as acolytes. They are a valued part of our worship. For information, please e-mail Amber Massa, head of acolytes, or contact the parish office (273-6532) and leave a message with Sarah Richtmyer, our parish secretary.

Youth Programs: The Diocese of Central New York has a strong Youth Program for middle school and high school students, and the diocese sponsors conference and retreats that St. John's actively participates in. Mindy Oakes is our Youth Minister. For more information, please e-mail Mindy or contact the parish office (273-6532) and leave a message with Sarah Richtmyer, our parish secretary.

Education for Ministry: This is a four-year program for adults developed by the School of Theology of the University of the South that covers the basics of a theological education in bible, church history, liturgy, and theology. Participants meet weekly with a trained and certified mentor. Please contact Jim Johnson or the church office (273-6532) if you are interested. Everyone is welcome.
